Social Responsibility
Both racial and gender discrimination have plagued the business sector for generations.  By directing a portion of our profits back into new and existing Small/Minority-Owned Businesses we are doing our part to level the playing field.

At supshops, we believe it is our social responsibility to change the narrative and outcomes within the financial and business sectors. By partnering with the Accion Opportunity Fund, we hope to engage in this mission to upend racial and gender inequities within the world of entrepreneurship.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Accion Opportunity Fund understands that entrepreneurs sometimes struggle to secure capital and resources, as they are often shut out from traditional financing. That's why, for over 25 years, their organization has served a client base that is nearly 90% women, people of color, or immigrants. When a supported business repays a loan, the Accion Opportunity Fund will continue to reinvest that money into other small businesses.

During the coronavirus pandemic, the Treasury Department suggested that banks should favor existing customers that applied for Paycheck Protection Programs (PPP). Consequently, many businesses owned by women and minorities, continued to be left out. 5

"Black business owners were more likely than white business owners to believe they wouldn’t be approved and were three times more likely than white business owners to be unaware that the [PPP] program even existed."
